Mainstream education has caused difficulties for the youth of northern Thailand in reaching their dreams. In most cases, they are forced to take exorbitant student loans which brings their families in poorer conditions.

This video proposes an alternative to mainstream education by home schooling the youth and teaching them the sustainable way of living. They are taught to live in a sufficiency economy model, consuming what they only need and driving themselves away from greed.

“Go for it. Reclaim the fields!” All around Europe, young people with no agricultural background are setting up farming initiatives. Despite the many difficulties these new farmers face, their systems are innovative, viable and sustainable. They are a response to Europe’s emptying countrysides, and their numbers are growing. Why and how did they make this radical choice? What do they gain from their hard work? What did they learn? This short video portrays 8 ‘future farmers’ from France, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands.

At the heart of the film the story of seed and its transformation from the basis of farming communities’ agri-culture, to the property of agri-business.

Miguel Altieri talks about the problems of the dominant, industrial-chemical agricultural system and the importance of small scale, agroecological farming as an alternative to meet the needs of food security and protect the environment.

Olivier explains the principles of agroecology and why it is so important for transitioning away from fossil fuel technologies which dominate the industrial food system at present. In practice small scale, locally independent models are best for implementing it. However, if governments support the adoption and spread of agroecological principles it can be scaled up to meet the needs of food security around the world.
